It went away and i was none the worse off for it - and it never happened again. A perforated or burst eardrum is a hole in the eardrum. Perforated eardrums do not always need to be treated because they often get better by themselves within a few weeks. thats why cotton buds arent always good. It is indeed due to water in the ear. You are only supposed to go around the opening of the ear. Its uncomfortable rather than painful but it gets rid of all the hard wax and will benefit your hearing immensely. As long as you're not in MAJOR pain with it, I think your eardrum is still intact, so my advice to you would be to get your ear looked at (tomorrow if possible - do you have a walk in centre nearby?)
You pushed it in too far, it could be inflamed and settle down in the morning, if not you are going to have to see your doc and ensure there is no asting damage!!
