AccuWeather’s Geoff Cornish explains why you shouldn’t underestimate a Category 1 or a tropical storm:This projected path could take the Josephine relatively close to the Leeward Islands in the northeastern part of the Caribbean this weekend.Even if the center of the storm stays over open water, the system could pass close enough to bring heavy rain and strong winds to parts of the Leeward Islands. Kyle is also the earliest named "K" storm on record, beating out Katrina in August 2005.The storm, about 185 miles off the coast of Atlantic City, is expected to move quickly away from land over the next few days.There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect in addition to no foreseeable hazards affecting land.Forecasters predict an "extremely active" 2020 hurricane season for the Atlantic Basin, with as many as 25 named storms forming.This includes the nine named storms that have already formed: Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias and Josephine.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said seven to 11 storms this season will be hurricanes. The previous one had been Jose, which developed on Aug. 22, 2005.The 11 p.m. Aug. 14, 2020, advisory for Tropical Storm Josephine.The tropical storm is not considered to be a threat to Florida at this time and will "likely not pose a threat to the U.S.," according to the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network.At 11 p.m., the center of Josephine was located near latitude 18.3 north, longitude 57.4 west.Josephine is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days followed by a turn toward the northwest late this weekend or early next week, the National Hurricane Center reports.On the forecast track, the center of Josephine is expected to pass to the northeast of the Leeward Islands over the weekend.Little change in strength is expected through Saturday.
